With the advent of the era of globalization, the relationships between countries and people become very close. National citizens who are actually members in a global village should bear the responsibility of taking care of the world family. Therefore, various international collaborations and mutual aids are overwhelmingly going on towards “nations without borders”.
The hospital was established in Taiwan
with assist of the foreign missionaries.
In the process of Taiwan development, it had received countless international NGO support in various kinds, including funds, materials, medical care, education, and so on. The record of the earliest reception of international medical aid in Taiwan could be traced to 1865, which British missionary Dr. Maxwell carried on his medical mission in Chijing Kaohsiung. Afterwards, the Sinlau Hospital was founded in Tainan and Chihou Hospital in Kaohsiung. Later on, Dr. Mackay established Tamshui Mackay Hospital and Dr. Landsborough founded Changhua Christian Hospital. Hualien Mennonite Christian Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital Luodong later appeared in the places. There were many other Christian hospitals in Taitung, Puli, Pingtung, Hengchun. All those attributed to Taiwan's public health and health care development in a great means.
Many countries in the world need aids.
Taiwan in many aspects, such as political, economic, and social development, has been making rapid vigorous progress from the assisted one of the past to the helper nowadays. In recent years, Taiwan has shown herself as a member of the global society by actively involving in international humanitarian relief work.
Today, Taiwan is able to help other countries.
In particular, Taiwan has gone through 921 earthquake. It became a profound realization that everyone as a member of the global village should support each other in order to ride out the storm. The founder of Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Dr. Noordhooff has ever said that "To share the knowledge, experiences, and technology of medicine is the way to uplift the standard of medical treatment and benefit human welfare.” Hence, Taiwan, with her advanced information and skill in terms of medicine, technology, agriculture, culture, etc., ought to pay back to international communities to help out other developing countries or remote areas.
