In recent years, the development of Taiwanese traditional opera has focused on re-adapting classic operas while incorporating new themes to reach a broader audience and attract more people to appreciate these performances. From our interview with the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, we learned that the school faces challenges with student admissions each year. Additionally, they have observed that audience turnout during their troupes' touring performances is often lukewarm. As a result, both the school and the troupes have developed a sense of urgency to address these challenges. To tackle this issue while preserving the essence of traditional opera, they have boldly pursued innovations and changes in areas such as scripts, performance content, music, stage lighting and setups, props, and costume design. These efforts have led to the gradual launch of a series of highly acclaimed productions, covering a diverse range of themes, including historical stories, family-friendly narratives, children's tales, science fiction, and romantic love stories. This approach has not only enriched the performance content but also enhanced its visual and auditory appeal, offering audiences a refreshing experience. As a result, these innovations have gradually attracted more young audiences, as well as parents bringing their children to the theater.
