Introducing

Activity Theme: Introducing the origins and characteristics of Bangzi Opera to fourth-grade students.
Activity Location: School Classroom
Activity Details: Using presentations to help fourth-grade students understand the history and characteristics of Bangzi Opera.

Most students may have only heard of performances such as Taiwanese glove puppetry, Gezaixi (Taiwanese Opera), and shadow plays but are likely unfamiliar with Bangzi Opera or may never have heard of it at all. Therefore, we specifically organized this activity to introduce the traditional opera, Bangzi Opera, to students. We aim to help them gain a deeper understanding of Bangzi Opera through this opportunity and inspire them to appreciate and enjoy these captivating operas during their leisure time in the future.

Proposal Preparation:

For this activity this time, we need to first draft a proposal tailored to fourth-grade students. With a well-prepared proposal, we can complete the tasks more efficiently. The proposal will include the content of the presentation as well as a prize quiz. Activity Strategies:

Presentation and Introduction Process:

First, our team members took turns introducing the origins and characteristics of Bangzi Opera while playing Bangzi Opera videos suitable for the students. This allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of Bangzi Opera. During the introduction, most students were full of curiosity and paid close attention to our presentation. Since everyone had practiced in advance, we were familiar with the content and delivered the presentation smoothly. The participating students used their lunch breaks to attend our presentation; therefore, we specially designed a prize quiz to reward their engagement. During the quiz session, the fourth-grade students enthusiastically raised their hands to answer questions, and most were able to provide correct answers, showing they had paid close attention to our presentation. Through this presentation, we gained valuable experience while enriching our own learning journey.

Student Feedback:

Based on the feedback forms from the students, the overall evaluations were quite positive. Our presentation was noted for being smooth, with sufficient volume, rich content, the inclusion of video demonstrations, clear visual materials, and effectively highlighted key points. Many students gave us high scores for these aspects. However, we believe there is still room for improvement.

Review and Improvements:

During the presentation, we were a bit nervous at the beginning, which resulted in our volume being a little low. Additionally, since the students were unfamiliar with Bangzi Opera, some had difficulty staying focused on the presentation. Moreover, the content was challenging for the fourth-grade students to understand, and some struggled to follow along, so we had to spend more time explaining. After this experience, we will ensure that future presentations are louder and that the content is simplified to make it easier for the audience to understand. This will help the audience grasp the content more easily and stay focused on the presentation.
