In this era of diverse entertainment and digitalization, people have numerous leisure choices, including movies, television, video games, concerts, and modern theatrical performances. Coupled with the fact that traditional opera has not innovated or adapted to the times, listening to or watching opera is no longer a primary leisure choice for modern audiences. As a result, the audience for traditional opera predominantly consists of older individuals, making it challenging to attract younger viewers. The challenges faced are not limited to a declining audience; fewer young performers are entering the field of traditional opera. To revive its former glory, traditional opera must embrace transformation and innovation to attract and expand its audience base.

Currently, the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts is already taking steps toward transformation and innovation. It has begun incorporating professional choreography and direction influenced by Western pop culture, nurturing a new generation of performers, accelerating performance pacing, and enhancing stage designs and props with technology-driven sound and lighting effects. Modern instruments are also being integrated into performances. Furthermore, the college leverages diverse media channels to improve marketing and promotional efforts, incorporating current affairs, issues, and modern concepts into operas to enrich the brilliance of traditional opera, aiming to draw younger audiences to the theater. In conclusion, we believe that traditional opera represents a unique art form and an important cultural art, which built through generations of accumulation and artistry. It is a highly significant part of our cultural heritage. Therefore, it requires strong support and preservation from everyone. With the efforts of the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts to preserve, innovate, and nurture this art form, we are confident that traditional opera will have a long and prosperous future.
