Research Perspectives

2024藝術季-湖光山色公演

The focus of this research project is Bangzi opera, a traditional art form with a long history and one of the most well-preserved styles of traditional opera. Bangzi opera is a comprehensive art that integrates music, drama, literature, dance, and performance. Over time, it has evolved to develop distinctive singing techniques, character roles, and performance styles. However, with the changing times, fewer members of the younger generation are familiar with Bangzi opera. Possible reasons for this decline include limited opportunities to learn about or engage with it, insufficient emphasis on its cultural value, inadequate promotion, and a lack of educational outreach focused on traditional opera. Consequently, Bangzi opera has gradually diminished as a popular leisure activity for modern audiences. During our visit to the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, we were delighted to have the opportunity to personally experience the musical instruments, performances, costumes, props, and stage setups associated with traditional opera. Additionally, we gained valuable insights into the school's curriculum and training programs, which were both engaging and informative. This experience significantly deepened our understanding and appreciation of traditional opera. In conclusion, we believe that with the dedicated efforts of institutions like the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts and performance troupes, Bangzi opera can once again showcase its captivating charm, allowing more people to appreciate the brilliance of traditional opera.
